United for Broward County’s Health

Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System are working together to strengthen healthcare for our community. Through the Better Together collaboration, these two leading public hospital systems are expanding access, improving outcomes, and delivering high-quality, compassionate care that keeps families close to home.

Coalition for Better Together:

United for Broward County’s Health

When Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System launched the Better Together initiative, a community movement was born. As public hospitals, these two systems serve everyone, every day, regardless of ability to pay. The Coalition for Better Together brings together local voices championing a collaboration that is already delivering real results for Broward County residents.

We are a network of business, healthcare, civic, and community organizations united by the belief that collaboration drives meaningful change. Our coalition of professional associations, nonprofits, elected officials, chambers of commerce, and local stakeholders works to amplify community voices and build a healthier Broward County.

From mobile clinics reaching underserved neighborhoods to expanded care for children and families, we support the tangible improvements the Better Together collaboration is delivering to our communities.

To protect and build on this progress, we need a clear legal framework that supports public hospital collaboration in Broward County.

The Better Together Collaboration Needs YOUR Support!

Legislation in Tallahassee would give Broward County’s two public hospital systems, Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System, clearer authority to collaborate and expand healthcare services across our communities. Both systems would remain separate and publicly accountable under Florida Sunshine Law. The legislation would simply remove outdated barriers that make it harder to coordinate care where Broward residents need it most.

Your voice helps build the support this collaboration needs to move forward.

Let your legislators know you support protecting local healthcare access in Broward County.

Supporting the Mission

The Coalition supports the Better Together collaboration because it is addressing Broward County’s most pressing health challenges. In a community where 1 in 10 residents face hypertension, nearly 200,000 experience food insecurity, and maternal health outcomes continue to lag, this partnership is delivering measurable solutions.

Expanding Access Where It's Needed Most:

Mobile health units, as well as the “Stay Healthy Together” and “One City at a Time” programs, bring screenings and care directly to underserved neighborhoods, while new maternity resource centers support families during critical moments.

Keeping Care Close to Home:

Starting this year, both systems are investing to expand healthcare access – $670 million for a new bed tower at Memorial Regional Hospital; new medical offices in Fort Lauderdale and Deerfield Beach; new freestanding ERs; and numerous new physician practices – so patients get the care they need close to home.

Streamlining Care Through Innovation:

Shared electronic health records ensure faster, coordinated treatment across both systems, eliminating duplicate tests and reducing wait times.

Ensuring Public Accountability:

With dual board oversight and transparent governance, both hospital systems have been and will continue to deliver on their commitment to ensure all operations and initiatives are publicly accountable to taxpayers, Florida lawmakers, and the community at large.

Real Results, Lasting Impact

When public hospitals work together, families get better care closer to home.

The progress speaks for itself:

Capital Investment & Infrastructure

Independently, both hospital systems are investing more than $1.5 billion into Broward County. Ongoing capital investment projects demonstrate both systems’ commitment to investing in the health and safety of our residents, children, and the workforce.

Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System have both broken ground on freestanding emergency departments in Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale, Hollywood, Lighthouse Point, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, and Sunrise, to address the rising demands of emergency services. These new emergency locations will further expand specialty and sub-specialty care in areas that have been deficient in healthcare access and services.

Data-Driven Health Outcomes

Data-driven programs are already improving outcomes in maternal-fetal medicine and primary care, using insights to deliver smarter, more connected care. Continuing this collaboration will accelerate progress, allowing both systems to better predict needs, personalize treatment, and strengthen the health of Broward families for the future.

Financial Strength & Sustainability

With A+ bond ratings and sound fiscal management, both health systems maintain the financial strength to recruit top clinical talent and respond to emerging healthcare challenges.

Broward Health’s recent S&P Global Rating jump to an A+ underscores significant improvements in Broward Health’s financial stability and operational performance.

Memorial Healthcare System continues its long-term success by exceeding budget and experiencing more than 10 percent growth over the prior year.

Coalition Voices

As the Coalition for Better Together, we ensure community voices guide these efforts. We advocate for policies that support this collaboration and hold both systems accountable to the families they serve.

Broward Workshop Backs Better Together
